We learnt that the Maya were the first to use chocolate to make a drink. We used cacao nibs, just as the Maya would have done, and crushed them into a powder using a pestle and mortar. Then, we added water to make a paste before adding our flavourings. The Maya would have used cornmeal, honey, vanilla and chilli, so we used all of these as well as milk and sugar (like our modern day hot chocolate) and a class choice, which was mint.
